Dr. Nivas Venkatachalapathi has an excellent track record in academics throughout his medical career. He has extensive experience in the field of Gastrointestinal, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery and Liver transplantation. He completed his M.S. General Surgery from Govt. Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem. He worked for two years as Assistant Professor in department of General Surgery & laparoscopic surgery in SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Institute. During that period, he was involved in laparoscopic and oncologic cases of the stomach ,colon and rectum. He developed keen interest on Gastro intestinal & Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery and hence he went for his Super Speciality training (DNB- Surgical Gastroenterology) to Lakeshore hospital, Cochin, under the renowned pancreatic surgeon Dr. H.Ramesh M.S, MCh, FACS, FRCS. It is one of the finest large volume core surgical gastro-oncology centre with main focus on cancer surgeries of the oesophagus, stomach, colon, liver and pancreas. He finished his MRCS from Royal College of Surgeons, England. Following that, he expanded his training in Liver Transplant and did a fellowship in Liver transplant and HPB surgery under the Dr. B C Roy Memorial Awardee Liver Transplant Surgeon Dr. Subash Gupta MS,FRCS, Max Hospitals, New Delhi. After rigorous training for 2 years, he worked as consultant in Liver transplant & HPB Surgeon, Gastro-oncosurgery at MGM Hospital, Chennai. Currently he is a consultant in Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, Gastro-oncosurgery at Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai. His special interests are treating benign pathology and cancers of the liver, pancreas, biliary duct .He has expertise in performing advanced laparoscopic procedures of gastrointestinal tract and hernia surgeries. He is involved in more than 150 hepatectomies, 200 Whipple’s procedure and more than 180 Frey’s procedure. He is also part of more than 600 living donor liver transplants and their perioperative care.
